Infant Family Support Plan (IFSP), is commonly used in early intervention services. Students who receive these services may qualify due to premature birth, cognitive delays, speech delays, or other reasons. An IFSP, is the plan that spells out what is going on with the child, what services will be provided, and how they will be provided. Goals are often included within these plans. Plans are typically evaluated every 3-6 months for progress on goals. Plans are re-assessed yearly to see if the child still qualifies for services.
These plans are often straightforward, however, it is important to make sure you understand all services your child is receiving. Your child may be entitled to more services than what is currently being offered. The goals your child has set forth should be customized and stimulating. You should be seeing growth in your child with these services. These plans end on a child’s third birthdate. If the child is still in need of services, then the child is then evaluated and typically given an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
